Diddle Diddle performs at The Events Centre, Caloundra on Friday at 10am.
Exploring the theme of resilience, the fun-filled Yo
Diddle Diddle is the first work by Patch’s new artistic director Naomi Edwards.
The show is inspired by the hilarious rhyme and rhythm of Tony Wilson and Laura Wood’s book The Cow Tripped Over the Moon.
“Cow dreams of the
impossible, she wants to jump the moon. I wanted to make a show which explores resilience for our 4-8-year-old audience,” director of Yo Diddle Diddle
Naomi Edwards said.
“When I found Tony Wilson’s book The Cow Tripped Over the Moon ,I
knew I had found our
Multi award winning producer DJ TR!P takes to the stage as ‘Houston’ the DJ’ing dog.
He’s joined by a cast including Jo Stone as ‘Cat’ and Ashton Malcolm as ‘Cow’.
“Hip-hop was chosen as the music art form because it embodies resilience. We decided early on that the only melody we would use in the show was the melody of the traditional nursery rhyme,” Naomi said.
“This limitation forced us to find inventive ways to use that melody to express happiness, sadness, fear and celebration.
“The mythology of hip-hop is born from resilience, storytelling, of rising up against adversity and using language, rhythm and rhyme to write your way out of a situation.” Yo Diddle Diddle is the first of four works by new artistic director Naomi Edwards, who has spent the past two years researching the core values of what children need to succeed.
