Club’s homage to brave An­zacs

RUGBY: In what is quickly be­com­ing a tra­di­tion in the Sun­shine Coast Rugby Union com­pe­ti­tion, the Caloun­dra Rugby Union Club will host their an­nual An­zac Day homage round against the Ma­roochy­dore Swans on April 13 at Light­house Park, Caloun­dra.

The cer­e­mony will com­mence with the read­ing of the Ode, fol­lowed by the

Last Post per­formed by a lo­cal bu­gler and the tra­di­tional minute of si­lence.

The club have part­nered with mem­bers of the Caloun­dra RSL who will once again de­liver the match balls to the team cap­tains fol­low­ing the cer­e­mony.

“CRU ap­pre­ci­ates the in­volve­ment of the Caloun­dra RSL. Dur­ing our re­cent tour to Malaysia to play in the Bor­neo In­ter­na­tional 7s, our tour party paid trib­ute to the ul­ti­mate sac­ri­fice made by Aus­tralian (and other) POWs in San­dakan at the Aus­tralian Me­mo­rial Park – an event we know the Caloun­dra RSL holds dear to their hearts,” club pres­i­dent Tony Green said.

As a club, for­mer Caloun­dra ju­niors Jonte Heirds­field, Jack Reid (Royal Aus­tralian Navy) and Daniel Ebbels (Aus­tralian Army) are cur­rent serv­ing mem­bers of the ADF.

Women kick off at 11.30am, Colts at 12.30pm and reserve grade at 2pm. The An­zac cer­e­mony will start dur­ing the in­terim at 3.15pm, prior to the A-grade game (3.30pm).
