Club’s homage to brave Anzacs
RUGBY: In what is quickly becoming a tradition in the Sunshine Coast Rugby Union competition, the Caloundra Rugby Union Club will host their annual Anzac Day homage round against the Maroochydore Swans on April 13 at Lighthouse Park, Caloundra.
The ceremony will commence with the reading of the Ode, followed by the
Last Post performed by a local bugler and the traditional minute of silence.
The club have partnered with members of the Caloundra RSL who will once again deliver the match balls to the team captains following the ceremony.
“CRU appreciates the involvement of the Caloundra RSL. During our recent tour to Malaysia to play in the Borneo International 7s, our tour party paid tribute to the ultimate sacrifice made by Australian (and other) POWs in Sandakan at the Australian Memorial Park – an event we know the Caloundra RSL holds dear to their hearts,” club president Tony Green said.
As a club, former Caloundra juniors Jonte Heirdsfield, Jack Reid (Royal Australian Navy) and Daniel Ebbels (Australian Army) are current serving members of the ADF.
Women kick off at 11.30am, Colts at 12.30pm and reserve grade at 2pm. The Anzac ceremony will start during the interim at 3.15pm, prior to the A-grade game (3.30pm).
