GOLDEN Beach is now home to a speciality grocer with a focus on organic and local produce.

Health-conscious owners Katrina and Josh Mckenzie from Wagga Wagga have only lived on the Sunshine Coast for 12 months.

Josh said the pair moved here after 12 years of holidaying in the area, to give their then one-year-old daughter – who they thought they would never have – a “great life”.

Like a lot of people, Kat was told she’d never be able to give birth to children of her own.

So she decided to “overhaul” their already healthy lifestyle to make their dreams come true.

“We cut out chemicals, went to a naturopath, learned a bit more (about health) and now we have a gorgeous little miss helping us on this venture,” she said.

Little did they know they would open an organic grocery.

“The Real Grocer is about providing as much local produce as we can, to cater for all diets like vegan, paleo and keto,” Kat said.

“There’s just so much on offer on the Coast, we felt there was nowhere to get it all.”

The new store aims to support local brands like Eumundi Organic Meats, Maleny Dairy and Kurana Organic at affordable prices.

“We’re a young family and we still want to eat well, but we know it’s expensive, so if we can help share that with other families so they can eat well too, we’re happy.”

They are stockists of fresh, spray-free produce, which Kat said she believed was one of their major drawcards.

“We’ve got everything you need as a little supermarket.”

The official opening is tomorrow, with more than 10 local and interstate producers offering taste testers, samples, freebies, and up to 30 per cent off.
