Mother wins top nurs­ing ac­co­lade

CARLA Dreyer has been named Grad­u­ate Nurse of the Year by the Sun­shine Coast Hospi­tal and Health Ser­vice.

“I feel hon­oured to be cho­sen,” she said.

“I worked hard dur­ing my first year as a grad­u­ate nurse, do­ing my best to learn as much as I could.”

The Caloun­dra mother-ofthree is also cel­e­brat­ing her ap­point­ment to the emer­gency de­part­ment at Nam­bour Gen­eral Hospi­tal with a ro­ta­tion to Sun­shine Coast Univer­sity Hospi­tal later this year.

“I’ve reached my goal of be­com­ing an emer­gency nurse and I’m lov­ing it,” she said.

“My role is to pro­vide ini­tial, pri­mary and sec­ondary as­sess­ment and care for pa­tients and I’m learn­ing along­side an amaz­ing team of health pro­fes­sion­als.

“Com­mu­ni­ca­tion is a big part of the job, and it’s im­por­tant to de­velop ther­a­peu­tic re­la­tion­ships with pa­tients and their fam­i­lies.”
