VOLUNTEERS GO ABOVE AND BEYOND

ARMIES of volunteers show their true colours on the march toward the federal election, supporting their local candidates through thick and thin.

Preparing for this year’s federal election has not been an easy task for Liberal MP for Fisher Andrew Wallace.

His mission to capture the hearts of the Fisher electorate majority again has taken great effort.

But manning pre-poll stations, corefluting and finalising the plan of attack takes talent and time from more than just a one-man band.

In fact, Mr Wallace said his talented volunteer army of more than 350 helped him provide grassroots presence across the electorate.

Keith and Myrl Allison are among those true blue Liberal supporters who have given up countless hours and braved the rain, wind and cold mornings for a cause they believe in wholeheartedly.

“We’re just helping the community,” Mrs Allison said. “We want Fisher to be great for education in schools and retirees. (So) we’re there for whatever is required at the time – whether it’s corefluting, being on listening posts helping Andrew, going to meetings or being his cheer squad.”

The retired pair agreed they had no plans of resting too much as they were on the home stretch to the federal election this Saturday.

“We believe in what we believe so we support our thinking,” Mrs Allison said.

“We’re very proud we can be volunteers... because it’s important to the community.”

Mr Wallace said he was “blessed” to have an entire dream team with “hearts of gold”.

“This has been like a military manoeuvre,” Mr Wallace said.

“(The) volunteers have given anywhere between three hours to three years of their life to the campaign. And they don’t get paid ... they don’t get anything out of it, than their wish.”
