Budding photographer closer to dreams

Sunshine Coast Daily - Caloundra Weekly - - NEWS -

YOUNG Coast shutterbugs were recently tasked with snapping their best picture of animals and the natural environment as part of Caloundra Rotary’s Children’s Photographic Competition.

Open to primary and secondary school children living in the region, the competition received 85 photos entered by 26 students.

The photo that won 11-year-old Lyla Castwood the 10-12 years animal category was of her longhaired jack russell, Pip.

Lyla said she took a range of photos but this one stood out as it perfectly captured what Pip loved to do – sleep.

“And she’s very special to me, because I’ve had her since I was three,” she said.

The Coolum State Primary School student said she’d been interested in photography for a while “because there’s heaps of different things to take photos of”.

She added she was excited to begin using her prize, tutoring lessons with renowned Sunshine Coast photographer Barry Alsop, as she one day hoped to “get better at taking photos”.

Eight winners and eight runner-ups were chosen.

Each winning photograph will be framed and displayed at the Caloundra Arts Centre.
