A BEERWAH couple sold their home and travelled to the Mediterranean to buy a yacht and live aboard in their retirement.

Barry and Aannsha Jones are seasoned travellers who have lived and worked in many countries.

When their son moved to the bright lights of Brisbane they became empty nester's with a dream to have a big adventure “before old age reduced their horizons”.

“Old age is coming for us all and we wanted to travel and see some more of the world before we got too old,” Barry said.

“Taking our home with us seemed like the best way to do long term travelling.”

Having no previous sailing history didn’t put a stop to their plans.

They undertook an intensive three-week sailing course in Gibraltar and earned their day skipper licences and began their new chapter of life sailing the seas in December 2017.

Throughout their travels aboard their floating home, the couple have visited many places including Greece, where they are currently docked.

They said their favourite “so far” was Turkey.

“What a beautiful country. The coastline, the ancient history, the people. Everything has a wow factor,” Aannsha said.

As seasoned travellers they have endured many challenges, but nothing like one month after sailing out of the marina for the first time.

“The mooring ball we were on failed at 10.30 at night (and) our boat ended up getting thrown onto the rocks outside the harbour wall at Javier in Spain,” Barry said.

But if everything goes to plan the couple expect to be sailing up the Brisbane river
