Sunshine Coast Daily - Caloundra Weekly - - LIFE -

THROUGHOUT the month of May, Pacific Lutheran College partnered with The Salvation Army, Caloundra for the 2019 Red Shield Appeal, raising more than $8000 and donating more than 1480 non-perishable items.

The College hosted a casual clothes day to raise funds, had more than 200 students, parents and staff members participate in the Door Knock Appeal and also donated non-perishable food and personal items for the Winter Food Appeal.

The Salvation Army, Caloundra corps officer, auxiliary lieutenant Karen Clark said it was a fantastic effort.

“We feel very privileged that Pacific dedicate the month of May to raising funds and food for the Salvation Army and we appreciate the time given by students, staff and parents,” she said.

“The amount raised was outstanding, as was the number of non-perishable items donated.

“The College’s efforts in helping the Salvos will make a huge difference to families in need in our local community, for many it will be life changing.”

Pacific has a strong relationship with The Salvation Army, Caloundra that dates back more than 16 years.

Pacific’s director of students Ben Ryan said service learning was an important part of the College’s ethos and education practice.

“Participation in service initiatives like the Red Shield Appeal greatly benefits student’s growth and development,” Mr Ryan said.

“Through positive action, our students and wider community are demonstrating what it means to act with a keen sense of social justice and be advocates for others.”
