LOCAL businessman Paul Evans and his team lost items worth tens of thousands of dollars in the early hours of September 24. And they still don’t have any answers. Thieves broke into Paul Evans Welding in Lowrie St by forcing a door and stole a Mazda single cab ute and assorted tools up to the value of $25,000. The burglars also cut into and damaged a side fence for more access to the property.

For Paul Evans, the theft has caused much distress for himself and his business. ‘‘It’s really disappointing,’’ he said. ‘‘When you’re trying to get ahead with your business and something like this happens to you — it’s just heartbreaking.’’

Mr Evans’ burnt out ute was found by police in Kyabram a short time later.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call Rochester police on 5484 1100, Echuca police on 5483 1500 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
