PARKS Victoria has said there will be no firewood collection areas in River Red Gum parks they manage this spring in order to sustainably manage future firewood supply.

The spring firewood collection season for 2018 started across Victoria on September 1 and closes on November 30.

The River Red Gum parks that will not have firewood collection areas are Mildura, Robinvale and Barmah. In 2017 firewood collection areas at Cobram-Yarrawonga and Shepparton were permanently closed because the supply of firewood has been exhausted.

Domestic firewood on public land is a limited resource that needs to be carefully managed. Future collection from Parks Victoria managed land will be subject to access and supply.

Alternative sources of firewood include public firewood collection areas across Victoria and commercial suppliers. For information visit ffm.vic.gov.au/firewood
