Pick of the bunch
THE Rochester Sports Museum will now have a new home.
Thanks to the state government funding scheme Pick My Project a grant of $102,480 will be injected to see the new location at the Rochester train station fitted-out.
The Rochester Lions Club applied for the grant and was notified of its success last week.
Sam Watkins has been the driving force behind the fundraising and is ecstatic with the result.
We have plans to hire a curator from ’ Melbourne — Sam Watkins
‘‘We already had some money set aside for the museum, but with this added money, it will make the difference between a display and something people will leave and talk about,’’ Sam said.
‘‘For tourists, the silo, murals, hospital statues and now the sports museum will link together the town.
‘‘We have plans to hire a curator from Melbourne who has connections to the National Sports Museum — so it will be big.
‘‘Now we can roll our sleeves up and get going and start the strategic planning and budget for the project.
‘‘We are hoping to have a big opening in April.’’
The Sports Museum committee and the Lions Club thank everybody who voted for their project.
