IN THE ladies mid­week pen­nant, di­vi­sion two played host to Lock­ing­ton and won by 20 shots.

Jane McCal­lum, Rhonda Hynes, Ev Ni­chol, San­dra Watkins de­feated K Palmer 36-17.

Jane’s rink won the Kits Kafe Cof­fee award.

Ser­ena Sholl, Elaine Hall, Val Gled­hill, Janet Rankin de­feated P Macfar­lane 25-19.

Cheryl An­der­son, Carol Cake­bread, Aileen Fiedler, Inez Rush­ton lost to P Hum­bert 19-24.

Di­vi­sion one were at home to Rich River and were de­feated by 15 shots.

Denise Pap­pin, Heather Cur­nick, Rae Ault, Di Mil­gate de­feated R Wheeler 28-23.

Marg Knight, Lor­raine Bond, Mar­garet Harley, Tr­ish Costello lost to L Eas­ther 25-27.

Lyn Moon, Jenny Ma­jor, Jeanette Knee­bone, Yvonne Smole­naars had a tough day and lost 12-30.

Ladies so­cial bowls win­ners last Tues­day were Aileen Fiedler, Rae Ault, Mary Bur­rows and lucky Aileen also won the raf­fle.

A few open cham­pi­onship sec­ond round matches were played dur­ing the week.

Elaine Hall de­feated S Sholl, Jeanette Knee­bone de­feated Jane McCal­lum, Marg Harley de­feated Tr­ish Costello, Di Mil­gate de­feated Cheryl An­der­son, Ja­nis Tam­burini de­feated Carol Cake­bread, Lyn Moon de­feated Yvonne Smole­naars.

A list is on the board for the ladies 100 up event, with en­tries clos­ing on Satur­day, No­vem­ber 3.

The first round is to be played on Fri­day, No­vem­ber 16.

This Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 31 is the ladies star tour­na­ment start­ing at 10am.

Raf­fles and a trad­ing will also be avail­able to give you a chance to get some good­ies.

Last week Marg Knight /Mar­got Bren­nan won their sec­tion of the CVBD state pairs, but were beaten on Thurs­day af­ter win­ning their morn­ing game lost to the Moama pair in the pre­lim­i­nary fi­nal.

In the week­end pen­nant, Rochester di­vi­sion one were at home to Mathoura and had a much-needed win by 11 shots.

Ash Vesty, John Weeks, Cameron Keenan, Robert Clay­ton were all in good form as they de­feated D Hicks 38-18.

David Keenan, Garth Wif­fen, Robert Knight, Kevin McGreevy de­feated M Quor 24-22.

Richard Feuk, Les Walles, Kelvin Wif­fen, Bruce Ma­jor lost to M Humphries 21-32.

Di­vi­sion two trav­elled to De­niliquin and were soundly de­feated by 52 shots.

Peter Holzer, Gra­ham Wil­lis, John Boyd, He­len Holzer lost to H Lea 15-28.

Hed­ley Moon, Mal Macraild, Kevin Dob­son, Greg Watkins drew 19 all with C Wil­liams.

Ron Stranger, Mick El­lis, Kevin Hall Ron Gled­hill lost to K Brooks 20-36.

Di­vi­sion four played at Mathoura and lost by 11 shots.

Clive Usher, Noel Sex­ton, Norm Christie, So­nia Keenan (mak­ing her pen­nant bowls de­but) de­feated G McConchie 24-23.

They were also the win­ners of the Rochester Ho­tel meal vouch­ers.

The Norm Knopp and the North­ern Dis­trict Chal­lenge Shield events were played on Sun­day at Moama.

Rochester were rep­re­sented by David Keenan, Ash Vesty, Cameron Keenan, and in the ladies event Denise Pap­pin and Marg Knight.

The Cam­paspe ladies won the North­ern Dis­trict Shield, and the Goul­burn Val­ley men won the Norm Knopp Shield.


AN­OTHER fine week for bowls at the club.

On Tues­day the women played Rinks with the win­ning team com­pris­ing Joy Weller, Bev Br­ere­ton, Anne Lowrie and Phylis MacFar­lane (s) in an awe­some dis­play of bowls from all play­ers.

In the mid­week pen­nant our ladies fell 20 shots short in the match against Rochester, los­ing the bat­tle 60-80 with just the one rink up.

K Palmer lost to J McCal­lum 17-36; P Hum­bert def. C An­der­son 24-14; P MacFar­lane l.t. S Sholl 19-28.

The week­end pen­nant had both di­vi­sion two and four travel to Moama and play un­der cover on a per­fect sur­face.

Di­vi­sion two fired up early in the match but the home team bowled bet­ter af­ter the break to clinch a 12-shot vic­tory 76-64.

G Turner l.t. N Var­coe 26-32 af­ter lead­ing 13-2 ear­lier; I John­son l.t. T Haw­ley 17-20; J Har­ris l.t. G Pet­ti­grove 21-24.

In di­vi­sion four the two top teams bat­tled for the top po­si­tion on the premier­ship ta­ble.

Af­ter the sched­uled 75 ends, our teams man­aged to score a mer­i­to­ri­ous vic­tory 71-66, with just the one rink win.

The Bill Mus­grove rink was the cat­a­lyst for the over­all win af­ter re­cov­er­ing from 1-8 down af­ter six ends, to win nine ends in a row and scor­ing 20 shots to fin­ish up with a 28-17 vic­tory.

Steve Peter lost 19-20 to the un­canny bril­liance of Stu­art Sut­ton and his rink.

Tom Davis lost a fluc­tu­at­ing game to David Black­burn 24-29 — un­for­tu­nately drop­ping a cou­ple of triples on the last two ends.

Lock­ing­ton lead the ta­ble on 53 points ahead of Mathoura 48 and Moama on 48.

We play Mathoura at home this week.

At the Fri­day evening bar­be­cue the lucky mem­bers draw favoured Kevin Hum­bert in the mega vic­tory.

Con­grat­u­la­tions to the CVBD women on clinch­ing the North­ern Chal­lenge shield on Sun­day at the Moama Bowl­ing Club.

Un­for­tu­nately the lo­cal CVBD men failed to win the Norm Knopp shield los­ing the games against Goul­burn Val­ley 51-77 and Bendigo 60-74 be­fore de­feat­ing North­ern Dis­trict 103-59.

Goul­burn Val­ley de­feated the Bendigo Dis­trict in a fi­nal win­ner-take-all round three to col­lect the shield.

The Jean Sprague (Goul­burn Val­ley) rink won the best per­formed team for the women while the John Stokes (Goul­burn Val­ley) four won the men’s.

The club ex­tends a great wel­come to new mem­bers Mary Atkins, Denise Gil­more and Brian Kin­nane.

COLBINABBIN mid­week suf­fered its first de­feat against Kyabram (the bot­tom team).

Robyn Weeks 26 lost to W Crilly 29 and Di Chan­dler 22 lost to J Her­man 24.

Di Chan­dler’s rink led by eight shots at lunch time but af­ter lunch strug­gled to win ends, while Robyn Weeks’ team came back af­ter lunch.

Colbinabbin Satur­day pen­nant trav­elled to Tal­ly­ga­roopna in pleas­ant con­di­tions but suf­fered their first de­feat for the sea­son.

R Rath­jen 42 lost to G Mur­phy 16, G Chan­dler 19 lost to Rod Tay­lor 29 and Bob McLean 18 def G Rowan 15.

A big thank you to Kelly Walsh (first game) and Chris Oliver for help­ing out. SO­CIAL NOTES John Brown left the green af­ter the loss on Tues­day de­flated, car­ry­ing a bag that was much lighter than when he ar­rived.

He re­cov­ered tak­ing home a bot­tle of red due to a raf­fle win.
