Police arrest 16 in drug raids across Campaspe
A POLICE strike team has arrested 16 people for drug crime, burglaries and theft during mass raids across Campaspe Shire.
Central Victoria Response Unit, with the help of Campaspe uniform police, detectives and dog squad, executed 16 search warrants on Wednesday and Thursday as part of Operation Days of Action.
‘‘Hopefully by focusing on disrupting the illicit drug trade in the area, this will have a flow-on effect on local crime especially burglary and property theft, which are often drugrelated crime,’’ Local Area Commander Inspector Geoff Owen said.
Warrants were executed at addresses in Simmie, Service and Hovell streets and Wharparilla Drive in Echuca, Edis, Park, Rogers and Albion streets and Dettman and Hibiscus courts in Kyabram, Brand St in Stanhope and George St in Rochester.
Detectives seized vehicles, a taser, ammunition, stolen tools, a registration plate and a commercial quantity of cannabis and methamphetamine.
A 34-year-old Echuca woman was remanded in custody and charged with trafficking methamphetamine and cannabis, handling stolen goods and illegally possessing ammunition.
A 28-year-old Stanhope man was remanded in custody after being charged with a multiple offences, including evading police, driving while disqualified, using false registration plates, handling stolen goods, criminal damage, unlawful assault, possessing ammunition, trafficking methamphetamine and dealing in the proceeds of crime.
A 34-year-old Echuca man was also charged and bailed for cultivating cannabis plants at his residence. He will face court at a later date.
A 34-year-old man was interviewed about possessing a stolen trailer.
One person was charged and bailed with possessing small amounts of amphetamine and three people were charged and bailed for possessing cannabis. Three people were offered a drug diversion for possessing amphetamine and one person received an official cannabis caution.
A man is taken into custody.
The raids took place over two days.
