Po­lice ar­rest 16 in drug raids across Cam­paspe

A PO­LICE strike team has ar­rested 16 peo­ple for drug crime, bur­glar­ies and theft dur­ing mass raids across Cam­paspe Shire.

Cen­tral Vic­to­ria Re­sponse Unit, with the help of Cam­paspe uni­form po­lice, de­tec­tives and dog squad, ex­e­cuted 16 search war­rants on Wed­nes­day and Thurs­day as part of Op­er­a­tion Days of Ac­tion.

‘‘Hope­fully by fo­cus­ing on dis­rupt­ing the il­licit drug trade in the area, this will have a flow-on ef­fect on lo­cal crime es­pe­cially bur­glary and prop­erty theft, which are of­ten dru­gre­lated crime,’’ Lo­cal Area Com­man­der In­spec­tor Geoff Owen said.

War­rants were ex­e­cuted at ad­dresses in Sim­mie, Ser­vice and Hovell streets and Wharpar­illa Drive in Echuca, Edis, Park, Rogers and Al­bion streets and Dettman and Hibis­cus courts in Kyabram, Brand St in Stan­hope and Ge­orge St in Rochester.

De­tec­tives seized ve­hi­cles, a taser, am­mu­ni­tion, stolen tools, a reg­is­tra­tion plate and a com­mer­cial quan­tity of cannabis and metham­phetamine.

A 34-year-old Echuca woman was re­manded in cus­tody and charged with traf­fick­ing metham­phetamine and cannabis, han­dling stolen goods and il­le­gally pos­sess­ing am­mu­ni­tion.

A 28-year-old Stan­hope man was re­manded in cus­tody af­ter be­ing charged with a mul­ti­ple of­fences, in­clud­ing evad­ing po­lice, driv­ing while dis­qual­i­fied, us­ing false reg­is­tra­tion plates, han­dling stolen goods, crim­i­nal dam­age, un­law­ful as­sault, pos­sess­ing am­mu­ni­tion, traf­fick­ing metham­phetamine and deal­ing in the pro­ceeds of crime.

A 34-year-old Echuca man was also charged and bailed for cul­ti­vat­ing cannabis plants at his res­i­dence. He will face court at a later date.

A 34-year-old man was in­ter­viewed about pos­sess­ing a stolen trailer.

One per­son was charged and bailed with pos­sess­ing small amounts of am­phet­a­mine and three peo­ple were charged and bailed for pos­sess­ing cannabis. Three peo­ple were of­fered a drug di­ver­sion for pos­sess­ing am­phet­a­mine and one per­son re­ceived an of­fi­cial cannabis cau­tion.

A man is taken into cus­tody.

The raids took place over two days.
