Encouraging start for new meet

IT WAS all smiles at the Rochester pool last month.

The Rochester Swim Club held its very first Encouragement Meet on November 25 with more than 40 swimmers attending for a fun afternoon of racing.

With the little Susie O’Neills and Keiran Perkinses travelling from near and far to compete, a wonderful swim meet was had — the first in four years at the pool.

‘‘Everything ran smothly,’’ Maree Macague of Splash ’N’ Learn to Swim and the Rochester Pool Club said.

‘‘It was all great and the weather was great.

‘‘It was out first encouragement swim meet we’ve had and it means that anyone who was interested could have swam — even I did!

‘‘There’s already talk about holding a swim meet in January, but I’d love to hold another encouragement meet this time next year.

‘‘It’s a big thing to organise the day and we don’t have many members.

‘‘But it brought a lot of interest to the club.’’

The event’s organisers thanked all the volunteers and local support it received from Parsons Rochester, Kez’s Kitchen, Yalang A Lang Jewels, Rochester Mitre 10, Splash ’N’ Learn to Swim, Bendigo Bank, Echuca Printers, Rochester Bakery and Rochester SES. It especially thanked Campaspe Shire Council for the grant that made the day possible.

With the help of these locals, each swimmer was able to receive a goodie bag at the conclusion of the event.

The competitors at the recent Encouragement Meet enjoyed a day of fun at the Rochester pool.
