Li­brary has a wide range of hol­i­day fun for cu­ri­ous kids

THE Cu­ri­ous Crea­tures Sum­mer Read­ing Club at Rochester Li­brary will be con­tin­u­ing through the Jan­uary school hol­i­days.

The pro­gram, which started on De­cem­ber 1, is free to join — as are all the li­brary school hol­i­day ac­tiv­i­ties — and re­wards stu­dents for read­ing and re­turn­ing books with an end-of-school-hol­i­days party.

‘‘Read­ing is an es­sen­tial skill for ev­ery­one. It’s the vi­tal foun­da­tion of a child’s learn­ing and en­gage­ment in their school years and for life,’’ Cam­paspe Re­gional Li­brary’s Wendy O’Hara said.

‘‘The Sum­mer Read­ing Club en­cour­ages chil­dren and young peo­ple to dis­cover great au­thors and il­lus­tra­tors of pic­ture books, ju­nior and young adult fic­tion as well as non-fic­tion.

A free fam­ily show, An­i­mals of Oz, is an in­ter­ac­tive show that will take place on Jan­uary 21 at 2.30pm at the Echuca Li­brary, book­ings are es­sen­tial. Call 5481 2400.

The hol­i­day pro­gram at Rochester Li­brary is as fol­lows: Tues­day, Jan­uary 8 at 10.30am Fam­ily movie: Small Foot, BYO drinks and nib­bles, for all ages. Thurs­day, Jan­uary 10 at 2.30pm Un­der the sea dio­rama; a free craft ac­tiv­ity for all ages. Tues­day, Jan­uary 15 at 10.30am Fam­ily movie: Ho­tel Tran­syl­va­nia 3, BYO drinks and nib­bles, for all ages. Thurs­day, Jan­uary 17 at 2.30pm Snake crea­tures; a free craft ac­tiv­ity for all ages. Wednes­day, Jan­uary 23 at 4pm Lego and tech time for all ages. Thurs­day, Jan­uary 24 at 2.30pm Sum­mer Read­ing Club Party and Pen­cil Pal ac­tiv­ity for Golden Ticket hold­ers.
