Beaut ute just what we need
THE Elmore CFA Unit has welcomed a new member of their team in the form of a new field command vehicle (FCV)
Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan made the trip to town recently to hand over the keys to the unit, which welcomed the new addition with open arms.
‘‘Our last FCV lasted us 10 years and we’ve worked hard to get this new one,’’ Elmore CFA captain Colin Walker said.
‘‘With help from the Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program and our own Ladies Auxiliary we were able to get what we needed.’’
Thanks to local businesses, such as Paul Evans Welding in Rochester, who helped make the vehicle and its add-ons possible, the brigade hope they can make the vehicle last even longer.
‘‘It’s a ute with a canopy on the back and when we need a new vehicle we can take the canopy off and save ourselves a bit of money next time,’’ Mr Walker said.
The Elmore Fire Brigade Ladies Auxiliary have put more than $11,400 towards the new Holden Commodore through events such as the Elmore Field Days and other fundraisers.
‘‘We raised the money and we wanted it to go into something worthwhile, something for our community,’’ Ladies Auxiliary president Christina Lonsdale said.
Ms Allan said the new vehicle will be invaluable in supporting the community.
“For more than a century, Elmore Fire Brigade has been supporting community safety, saving lives and properties in Victoria’s north east,” Ms Allan said.
“The new field command vehicle will support the volunteers’ efforts, by making it easier for them to get to incidents in and around Elmore, while also providing more accurate information about fires.
“I’d like to pay tribute to the brigade and its members for their ongoing commitment to keeping our community safe, and to the Elmore community, including the local IGA, for its generosity and support for the brigade.’’
But Mr Walker emphasised that it’s not just for Elmore.
‘‘We’ll use the vehicle all around the area. We help Rochester and all around so it isn’t just for us,’’ he said.
