Hoppers swarm to take down Hawks

-

Colbinabbin’s senior football side is on a three-game winning streak after a comfortable 50-point win over Huntly in the Heathcote District Football League on Saturday.

Hitting the road again to take on the Hawks in a new and improved round 10 fixture, the Hoppers were determined to address areas of weakness and make a positive start to the game.

The Hoppers controlled possession of the ball in the first quarter thanks to some tenacious tackling pressure from the likes of Patty O’Brien, Logan Fitzgerald and Ben Southam.

And though the conditions didn’t enable clean and precise passages of play, the team continued to ask questions of the opponent's defence to advance to a 16-point lead at the main break.

The barometer in Jed Brain dialled up the gauge and presented well up the field in the third quarter, while Ben Southam and Ben Barton continued to mop up possessions at will.

Matt Riordon and Clint Shields competed relentlessly down forward, and Nick Knight kept defying the odds to produce multiple inside 50s.

Lochlan and Hadley Sirett controlled the aerial department in the last quarter with the Hoppers piling on five straight goals to end up 50-point winners.

Major goalkickers was Matt Riordan with three, with better players for the day the ever-consistent Ben Barton along with Ben Southam, Nick Knight, Matt Riordan, Dan Hill and Hadley Sirret.

Congratulations goes to the Knight and Riordan families on the recent births of June and Harrison. There is a

great bunch of junior Hoppers waiting in the ranks.
