Mil­lion-dol­lar makeover

CAN­NING Vale Col­lege un­veiled its $2 mil­lion up­grade last week.

The works, which be­gan last June, were of­fi­cially opened last week by Ed­u­ca­tion and Train­ing Min­is­ter Sue Ellery.

The new and re­fur­bished school fa­cil­i­ties in­clude a mod­i­fied ex­ten­sion to the ex­ist­ing board­room, new stu­dent ser­vices wing, cov­ered walk­ways, new play­ing courts and ex­tra park­ing spa­ces for 20 cars.

Prin­ci­pal Paul Bottcher said the new fa­cil­i­ties fur­ther guar­an­teed that the school would re­main the school of choice for those in Can­ning Vale.

“The new stu­dent en­gage­ment and sup­port space has al­lowed us to con­tinue our spe­cialised fo­cus on im­prov­ing stu­dents’ so­cial and emo­tional well­be­ing so that all stu­dents can achieve to the best of their abil­ity and cre­ate a suc­cess­ful fu­ture,’’ he said.

“The in­crease to the sport­ing fa­cil­i­ties has in­cluded eight mul­ti­courts, which will guar­an­tee many more stu­dents can par­tic­i­pate in healthy phys­i­cal ac­tiv­ity at any one time.”

Can­ning Vale Col­lege is one of 20 sec­ondary schools that has been re­built or up­graded un­der the State Gov­ern­ment’s pub­lic schools in­fra­struc­ture pack­age.

“Stu­dents at Can­ning Vale Col­lege ben­e­fit from spe­cial­ist teach­ers plus a va­ri­ety of sub­ject choices and th­ese new fa­cil­i­ties of­fer every child the best chance of achiev­ing at the high­est level,” Ms Ellery said.
