Swancare’s golden age of innovation
BENTLEY aged care provider Swancare has been recognised nationally.
The not-for-profit organisation received the 2019 National Aged Care Award for innovation for two initiatives developed in partnership with Curtin Medical School and University of Notre Dame.
Now in its third year, the Swancare/ Curtin Medical School partnership gives medical students an opportunity to build a positive relationships with seniors.
Swancare resident Susan Lewis said she enjoyed making bonds with students and had learnt so much about their views and different cultures.
“It’s important for doctors to be aware of the processes of ageing both physically and mentally, as people are living longer these days,’’ she said.
The Swancare/ Notre Dame University partnership was introduced to help meet the complex needs of residents. Each year two nurse students are chosen to complete post graduate studies and attain their Graduate Certificate in Clinical Nursing while working at Swancare’s residential care facilities.
