Reap the Harvest

Canning Gazette - - NEWS -

THE City of Canning Amphitheatre was transformed into a kaleidoscope of colour last weekend for the Pongal Harvest Festival.

Hosted by the Tamil Association of WA, the event brought a riot of colour, dance and music to the stage.

The Harvest Festival is celebrated by Tamils around the globe to thank the Sun God on the first day of the month Tai and to mark the end of the winter solstice in southern India.

Canning Mayor Patrick Hall thanked the president of the Tamil Association of WA for inviting him to celebrate Tamil culture.

“The sun shone brightly on the festival, which showcased Tamil art, food and traditional sports, while raising money for Australian bushfire relief charities,’’ he said.

“It was a joyous event and I felt very fortunate to be invited to celebrate this important occasion with our Tamil community.”
