Res­tau­rant fined over food stor­age

THE De­part­ment of Health has fined a Malaysian eatery af­ter the busi­ness failed to prop­erly store food.

Beng Suan Lim was con­victed on Fe­bru­ary 10 for breaches of the Food Act com­mit­ted at Pe­nang Hawker Food on Bar­bican Street in Shel­ley.

WA Health De­part­ment has fined the busi­ness $12,000 and $4000 for costs of the of­fences.

The of­fences were com­mit­ted on March 28 and May 28 last year.

The busi­ness was con­victed for fail­ing to store food in such a way that it was pro­tected from the like­li­hood of con­tam­i­na­tion and fail­ing to store po­ten­tially haz­ardous food un­der tem­per­a­ture con­trol.

Ms Lim’s daugh­ter Ivy said her mum was work­ing on im­prov­ing ev­ery­thing in the kitchen to en­sure ev­ery­thing was up to the stan­dard of clean­li­ness.

“We’ll en­sure some­thing like this won’t hap­pen again," she said.

“We’ve up­dated the rules and reg­u­la­tions and mak­ing sure the staff is on the same track.”
