MICHELLE Ranieri and Carly Blenkhorn thought their bid to become foster parents would not be supported because of their sexuality, but soon found out they were misinformed.

“We thought they (the Department of Communities) wouldn’t want us and they quickly told us we were misinformed and sometimes the department prefers placements where there is just women in the house,” Ms Ranieri said.

The couple started fostering three years ago and now care for three children under the age of five.

Ms Ranieri said foster care had some challenges but it was rewarding to see children thrive when given opportunities.
