THE City of Canning’s annual art awards exhibition is back with a bang for another year.
Featuring works from over 180 artists across Perth, the eight-day exhibition showcases a multitude of mediums, including painting, drawing, 3D and sculpture, mixed media and photography.
Canning Arts Group president Trish Ray’s mixed media piece For You is just one of the artworks on show.
She took up the art only a couple of years ago and said her love of dogs and a spontaneous approach to art inspired her work.
“I did that in a workshop and it was a 3D mixed media piece,” she said.
“We were using all these different mediums and techniques I hadn’t used before and in all honesty it just evolved.
“I did the background first, then I did the paper bit and started filling the gaps to give it more dimension with pastels.
“I did a bit of acrylics as well. When I did the background with the inks, I tried to work with the patterns in that. Some artists are very planned, but it’s not my style.”
The exhibition kicked off with a cocktail gala to announce the award winner for the adult and youth categories on Friday.
The exhibition will be on display at the City of Canning Civic and Administration Centre between 10am and 3pm from August 11 to 19.
Entry is free.
