THEY may still be a few tro­phies short of a baker’s dozen, but Oven Crisp Bak­ery has walked away with an award from The Great Aussie Pie Com­pe­ti­tion for the third year run­ning.

The River­ton bak­ery took out the prize for best plain sausage roll, beat­ing out stiff com­pe­ti­tion from bak­eries across the coun­try to claim the highly-prized tro­phy.

The vic­tory fol­lowed the bak­ery’s back-to­back suc­cesses in the best pie award in 2017 and 2016.

Owner Jimmy Dang said they fo­cused on win­ning the sausage roll cat­e­gory after they came close.

“We tried last year and came third, so we knew what to im­prove this year and gave it a shot and got the award,” he said.

Mr Dang said their win­ning sausage roll was a re­sult of hard work and a metic­u­lous ap­proach to choos­ing their own in­gre­di­ents.

“We choose our own sea­son­ing and we mix it through. There’s more flavour; it’s a fuller flavour,” he said.
