Sail of the century
Keen to set sail for adventure? Then the Shelley Sailing Club is the place for you.
SHELLEY Sailing Club is ready to set a course for adventure as the new sailing season draws closer.
The club is on the lookout for new members ahead of the season, which is due to begin in October.
Vice-commodore Todd Oldfield said the relaxed, friendly atmosphere was perfect for experienced sailors and newcomers.
“You will find people who sail by themselves and we even have husband and wife, father and daughter, and father and son teams sailing together,” he said.
“The sailors at Shelley have lots of fun in a relaxed atmosphere of fun, friendship and even a little rivalry at times.”
Mr Oldfield said the club had two different courses, one for beginners and a follow-on course, with kids able to learn even if their family did not have a boat.
“Shelley Sailing Club supplies the boat and boat storage, you just pay for the training,” he said. “No experience is required for the introductory course, all you need is your bathers, hat and enthusiasm.”
The club is holding an open day on October 14 for people interested in joining, which will include training on the day.
