Willetton resident Samantha Quealy turned to Pablo Picasso for inspiration and was rewarded with a Perth Fashion Festival honour.
A PABLO Picasso-inspired costume has helped Samantha Quealy walk away with a Perth Fashion Festival award.
The Willetton resident won the costume category at the festival’s Future Runway, which showcases fashion student designs from the state’s leading fashion design schools and universities.
Ms Quealy’s said her 3D sculptural design, titled ‘Frame Perspective’, was inspired by Picasso’s cubist period.
“I quite like geometric shapes and I like how it’s asymmetric and none of it is the same. I wanted to practise different techniques in sewing and I thought I’d give it a go,” she said.
The South Metropolitan Tafe student admitted she was surprised by the win given she had not initially decided to enter in the costume category.
“I always liked costumes and I already had the garment made for a different event I was considering entering it in,” she said.
“I thought I’d give costumes a go because that’s what I like the most.”
