Locals favour park cafe
CITY of Canning accepted a petition containing more than 1000 signatures supporting development of a café or restaurant at Shelley Beach Park.
The petition tabled by long-time resident Warren Duffy was presented minutes prior to the start of the October 16 meeting.
Councillors agreed to receive, but not endorse the petition as they had only 10 minutes to examine it.
However, at last week’s meeting council voted to accept the petition, despite confusion over signatures.
The meeting agenda on the City website stated the petition had 1299 signatures, 66 of which were from people who lived outside the city boundaries and 11 deemed invalid as they did not comply with a Standing Orders Local Law.
However, the City said they had received additional signatures after they uploaded the agenda and the petition actually contained 1844 signatures.
