Ambitious plans,

Canning Times - - NEW YEAR’S WELCOME -

a welcoming and thriving city, the City is committed to continually making bold, brave, out-ofthe-box decisions for its future.

2019 sees work commence on the City’s biggest ever infrastructure program, the Canning city centre. This $76 million project will revitalise the Cannington precinct into a vibrant public realm. Work will also commence on the Bentley 360 project, with works also expected to commence in early 2019.

Looking after our environment is always of paramount importance and this year council will continue to focus on becoming a leading

of the muchawaited community centre gains momentum.

On budget and due to open in early 2020, this community hub will enable the co-location of the library, digital hub and recording studio, museum, Senior Citizens Centre, offices for not-for-profit service providers, cafe and creche.

As the city of opportunity, the City of Belmont aims to lead the way in facilitating new projects that will transform the City.

During the year there is expected to be progression local government in sustainable waste management. Our biodiversity and tree strategies will also be safeguarding the beautiful natural environment we are fortunate to enjoy on our doorstep.

Our diverse community can look forward to yet another action-packed event calendar, with old favourites such as MidWeek Eats, Anzac Legacy Blues Concert and Festival of Movement returning.

I also urge residents to take advantage of the wide range of daily and weekly activities on offer for people of all ages at our libraries and Leisureplex facilities.

of Development Area 6 and the associated Redcliffe train station, Golden Gateway local structure plan, the Great Eastern Highway urban corridor strategy, as well as exciting new developments such as Costco near Perth Airport and a new Wyndham LUX Perth Hotel for Rivervale.

Last year’s Community Perceptions Scorecard showed a large majority of residents were satisfied with the City as a place to live and satisfied with the City as a governing organisation, and the City expects to maintain this.
