O’Briens Crossing
Melbourne
If you are looking for an escape from Melbourne, head out to O’Briens Crossing in the Lerderderg State Park, just 80km or an hour and a half drive from the city. Here you can camp by the Lerderderg River which has cut a deep gorge through the surrounding sandstone, creating a beautiful environment with abundant vegetation and wildlife. Campfires are permitted, but only in fireplaces provided by the park. There are a number of fantastic walking tracks in the area as well as some interesting relics from the goldmining days but facilities are limited to just toilets. One great thing, being a state park, pets are allowed so don’t forget to bring Rover.
Getting there
Take the Calder freeway northwest to Gisborne, go through the town onto Gisborne Road and then turn right onto the dirt at Carrolls Lane. Follow this until you hit the campsite.
Fees
Range from $6 to $ 31
