Moreton Island

Located 40 kilometres off the coast of Brisbane, families can arrive at Moreton Island by sea or air. If you are not bringing a vehicle with you, not a problem. The ferry means you can choose to be dropped at the port closest to your desired campsite. A 4WD is essential for getting around Moreton as this sand-laden haven doesn’t have sealed roads.

Families heading off to Moreton this summer have a choice of staying in one of five campsites with toilets and showers. There are many other designated campsites on the island; however, these are for the extreme campers who are prepared to bring everything with them and embrace the lack of facilities.

If you are lucky enough to visit Moreton between June and November make sure the kids keep an eye out for the pods of whales that migrate past these shores each year.
