Surrounded by spectacular geological formations and ancient rainforests, Brisbane delivers exceptional hiking experiences from short, half-day walking tracks to extended overnight adventures. The grand Gold Coast to Hinterland walk is one such trail, connecting the species-rich Gondwana Rainforests of Lamington and Springbrook highlands through the scenic Numinbah Valley. While the full 54-kilometre track takes four days to complete, the Green Mountains (O’Reilly) to Binna Burra section is an excellent overnight hike for beginners, which can be completed in seven hours. Navigating through Tweed Volcano’s highest remaining basalt lavas, he track then winds through warm to cool subtropical rainforest dense with strangler figs, palms, hoop pines and vines. At Binna Burra’s privately owned campsite, hikers can pitch their own tent or book a safari-style tent onsite. A camping permit booked in advance is required. Difficulty: Moderate
