OZTrail Majesty Queen Air Mattress

There’s nothing that turns people off camping more than a bad night’s sleep – aside from creepy crawlies, of course. That’s why after a day hiking, fishing, kayaking and adventuring it’s imperative you have a comfortable place to rest. With this in mind, I’ve trialled OZTrail’s Majesty Queen Air Mattress.

Sleeping in a tent for a 10-day odyssey to Cape York, Queensland (and back) meant I needed something more comfortable than a hiker’s mattress, but, having limited room, I couldn’t fit a self-inflating 4WD mattress into our set-up.

It turned out that the Majesty Queen was a great choice. Not only was it large enough to sleep myself, my husband and our three-year-old, sparing us from having to carry an extra toddler bed, but its triple layers (at 45 centimetres thick) meant it was well-raised off the hard and often bumpy ground.

It was also easy and quick to inflate. The mattress has a built-in 240-volt pump, perfect for campers who like staying in holiday parks and connecting to mains power. There was no such option on the Overland Telegraph Track, however, so we instead used the inverter in our Prado and it worked a treat. Alternatively, you’d need a foot pump.

We’ve also tested the mattress in the heat of NT and while beach camping in Queensland. Every time, it’s provided a firm, restful sleep and afterwards it has packed up small, to be stowed away neatly in its box. For car campers, I’d highly recommend this light, comfortable and easy-to-use mattress.
