MUNDUBBERA pioneer Bruce Serisier came away with the town’s Citizen of the Year award, something he was “not expecting”.

Mr Serisier, who has been working behind the scenes for the town for many years, was proud to be recognised at this year’s Australia Day awards ceremony.

“It’s just one of those things where you don’t expect to win awards, because I don’t do it for that,” Mr Serisier said.

“I’m very surprised, that’s for sure.”

Mr Serisier holds several roles in Mundubbera, including the secretary of the Lions

Club, the president of the Mundubbera Enterprise Association, the chair of the Heritage Rail Group, and is a part of the Mundubbera Small Bore Rifle Club.

“I thought it was good to see lots of young people winning awards on Sunday with plenty of heavy involvements,” he said.

“So that was good to see.” Mr Serisier wanted to thank the community, the council for their involvement, and to Colleen Whelan for nominating him.

“I’m pleased to represent a strong community, the Mundubbera community.”
