REPRESENTATIVES from the Burnett were part of 260 delegates who attended a historical first on the Gold Coast this month.

The Agricultural Shows of Australia’s Inaugural Conference drew visitors from Australia and New Zealand, all eager to learn how to better their industry shows.

Hosted by the Queensland Ag Shows Next Generation Committee, the theme for the conference was “Stronger together, building resilient, adaptable shows”.

QASNGC president Brianna Hockey said it was promising to see several Burnett members attend the event.

“It was really encouraging to see that the show societies within our region see the value in equipping the people who are involved with running these shows,” Ms Hockey said.

“It’s important that they’re networking and touching base with shows who are beyond our borders, to keep these going in the future.”

This conference was the first of its kind nationally, held 200 years since the very first ag show in Tasmania in 1820.

Monto’s ag show will be celebrating its 90th year in 2020, with Ms Hockey saying the conference gave ag shows the opportunity to unite.

“There’s a lot of history behind these events, and its important we invest in the volunteers who give their time to ensure they continue in the future.”

Ms Hockey said it was great to receive insight from staff of major shows such as the Royal Adelaide Show, the Ekka, and Sydney Royal Easter Show.

“We’re not as big as the other shows, but regardless of the size, volunteer organisations are facing similar issues,” she said.

“But now we can bring this information back, and make our events even stronger.”

The first ag show of the Burnett will kick off on April 11 in Gayndah, then Mt Perry on April 18.
