Gayndah Gladiator crowned
RUGBY LEAGUE: Gayndah Gladiator Zac Dann was named Gayndah Sportsperson of the Year at the weekend, after captaining his side to two of the past three premierships.
Dann said the award was unexpected and he was both honoured and privileged to receive it.
“I’ve been playing rugby league for Gayndah for about five years and have been fortunate enough to win three backto-back premierships,” Dann said.
“I’ve played a lot of representative footy, but nothing compares to winning premierships with your club.
“Getting the award came as a shock. I really didn’t know I was going to get it.”
Gayndah Gladiators club president Gavin Berrie said Dann was one of those players who stood out on the field.
“He was a bit shy about the award, but he’s just a deserving, good local lad,” Berrie said.
“He has been the captain for the last two years and his football ability is second to none.
“He ... always lends a hand and has really grown over the last couple of years.”
With preseason training under way, the club is confident about the season ahead.
In the summer, Dann plays for Murgon in the South Burnett cricket competition.
