Publicans secure taxi service for their town
DESPITE the economic downturn in the region, one business has decided to add another feather to its cap.
Monto Grand Hotel publicans Doug O’Sullivan and Tina McGrath took over ownership of the Monto Taxi Service in October.
Mr O’Sullivan said he believed it was imperative to keep the taxi in Monto.
“It’s a service the town’s got and it’d be a shame to see it die,” Mr O’Sullivan said.
“Now we use it along with the courtesy bus and our home deliveries.”
Acknowledging it as an added bonus to the business, Mr O’Sullivan welcomed the new stream of income.
“Things have been a bit tough with the drought and the mines … so every dollar helps,” he said.
The Grand will be working with the previous driver, George Wanders, who has been picking up customers for close to five years.
Prior to driving for the Monto Taxi Service, Mr Wanders was helping around the town wherever he could but is glad to be helping people with their travel needs.
“There are a lot of people that rely on it,” Mr Wanders said.
“They either haven’t got a licence or a car, so I’ve been able to help them out.”
AT YOUR SERVICE: George Wanders.
