The North Burnett gets $1M for drought
FUNDING to the tune of $1 million has been allocated to the North Burnett to revitalise our drought-stricken towns, and the council wants your say.
The Drought Communities Program endeavours to support local infrastructure and community projects in affected regions across Australia.
In order to increase local spend and improve liveability, the council devised ‘Town Renewal Projects’ for each shire, issuing $120,000 each.
Looking to improve the look and feel of our CBDs, Mayor Rachel Chambers is encouraging residents to attend workshops to have their say on the funding.
“Council is seeking community input for ideas to assist with prioritising eligible projects to beautify our towns,” Cr Chambers said.
“So if you have any ideas as to how to hit the mark with the $120,000 available for your town, please contact your local councillor or attend a community consultation workshop.”
The funding doesn’t stop here, with council hiring a grassroots mental health support worker, a regional comedy tour, and entrance signs to all towns and villages in the region.
Local businesses and contractors will be used throughout this process, in an effort to stimulate the North Burnett’s economy.
These projects need to be finalised before June 30, 2020.
Have Your Say – Drought Communities Program workshops will be taking place on the following dates:
Biggenden: 7pm, Tuesday, 11 February at the Biggenden Memorial Hall.
Eidsvold: 4pm, Wednesday, 12 February at the Eidsvold Town Hall.
