Norma loves her indoor bowls
BIGGENDEN Senior Citizens Club has honoured Norma Swain with life membership.
The presentation took place while the Childers Seniors group were visiting last week.
Club president Jill Ledwidge said Norma had been prominent in the club since the 1990s.
“She has held positions of president, provider and committee member,” she said.
The 77-year-old Mrs Swain said the life membership was a surprise to her.
“I love my senior cits of a Tuesday,” she said.
“My favourite activity is playing indoor bowls. “I’m a keen competitor.’’
Since she moved to town in 1988 Mrs Swain has also been president of both Biggenden QCWA and Biggenden Blue Care Auxiliary.
“It has been my way of giving back to a community that has been good to me since I came here,” she said.
But she said it was time to take a step back and has resigned from Meals on Wheels as a volunteer.
Mrs Swain said the club was badly in need of new members.
“We had an open day and five new people came along but they’ve never been back.”
Over 50s are welcome to join in an afternoon of indoor bowls, board games, table tennis, friendly chats and afternoon tea every Tuesday at 1pm at the show hall.
LIFE MEMBERSHIP: Norma Swain.
