2018 reef champions
LEADERS in on-farm practices and extension have been rewarded for their innovative work to reduce and manage agriculture’s impact on the Great Barrier Reef.
Held in Yeppoon on National Agriculture Day, the Reef Champion Awards shone a light on such things as nitrogen reduction practices, wetland conservation and re-vegetation of farms.
Mackay cane grower Gerry Deguara took out the Prince of Wales Environmental Leadership – Reef Sustainability Award, judged and selected by Prince Charles himself. YOUNG WINNER: Hayley Bracewell and her son Sid Crawshaw, who won the Reef Youth Champion Award – Under 15.
