SA farmers post good score despite the drought
SOUTH Australia’s primary industries generated record revenue of $15.2 billion last financial year, despite the challenge of drought. These are findings from the 2018–19 Primary Industries Scorecard, released to coincide with the first Advanceag Showcase at the Adelaide Showgrounds.
It aims to help producers adopt the latest in on-farm innovation to help promote growth in the sector. Overall, agriculture, food, wine and forestry exports represented 47 per cent of the state’s total merchandise exports in 2018– 19. Exports increased for dairy by 25 per cent, wool by 19 per cent, horticulture by 12 per cent, seafood by 11 per cent and wine by 3.5 per cent. But strong demand from NSW and Qld for grain, amid severe drought, led to grain exports reducing by 50 per cent.
