Men’s Shed wins grant for much-needed upgrades
THE Moura Men’s Shed has been successful in its application for grants of $5550 from the Australian Government under round 17 of the government’s National Shed Development Program.
“Like similar sheds across Australia, the Moura shed offers support to local men who need a bit of space and some friendly, easy-going company,” Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd said.
“Men are often the last ones to make their health and well-being a priority.
“It’s imperative that we do what we can to ensure they get the support they need and deserve.
“Our government recognises these benefits and is investing a total of $5.1 million over three years to the national Men’s Sheds movement.”
Moura Men’s Shed will use its grant to do maintenance works including electrical upgrades, power points and a switchboard upgrade in addition to fixing up the stairs at the rear door.
“Men are talking about their health more and more, and the men’s shed provides a safe and friendly environment for them to do so,” Mr O’Dowd said.
“Men’s Sheds are integral to the community and the benefits to men’s health are widely acknowledged.”
Heath Minister Greg Hunt said feeling part of a social group was important to our emotional and mental health.
“Every day Men’s Sheds across Australia and in Flynn it provides men with an opportunity for companionship and support within their community,” he siad.
