Men’s Shed wins grant for much-needed up­grades

THE Moura Men’s Shed has been suc­cess­ful in its ap­pli­ca­tion for grants of $5550 from the Aus­tralian Govern­ment un­der round 17 of the govern­ment’s Na­tional Shed De­vel­op­ment Pro­gram.

“Like sim­i­lar sheds across Aus­tralia, the Moura shed of­fers sup­port to lo­cal men who need a bit of space and some friendly, easy-go­ing com­pany,” Mem­ber for Flynn Ken O’Dowd said.

“Men are of­ten the last ones to make their health and well-be­ing a pri­or­ity.

“It’s im­per­a­tive that we do what we can to en­sure they get the sup­port they need and de­serve.

“Our govern­ment recog­nises these ben­e­fits and is in­vest­ing a to­tal of $5.1 mil­lion over three years to the na­tional Men’s Sheds move­ment.”

Moura Men’s Shed will use its grant to do main­te­nance works in­clud­ing elec­tri­cal up­grades, power points and a switch­board up­grade in ad­di­tion to fix­ing up the stairs at the rear door.

“Men are talk­ing about their health more and more, and the men’s shed pro­vides a safe and friendly en­vi­ron­ment for them to do so,” Mr O’Dowd said.

“Men’s Sheds are in­te­gral to the com­mu­nity and the ben­e­fits to men’s health are widely ac­knowl­edged.”

Heath Min­is­ter Greg Hunt said feel­ing part of a so­cial group was im­por­tant to our emo­tional and men­tal health.

“Every day Men’s Sheds across Aus­tralia and in Flynn it pro­vides men with an op­por­tu­nity for com­pan­ion­ship and sup­port within their com­mu­nity,” he siad.
