Fur-friends out for good cause

Central Telegraph - - NEWS -

PULL out your walking shoes and round up the puppies, because it’s time to take a walk for charity.

The second annual Dog Walk for Breast Cancer will be held later this month in Biloela.

Hosted by the Banana Shire Council, the event will bring the community together to raise awareness for breast cancer.

“Many Australian families are touched by cancer every day,” a council spokesman said.

“Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, with one in eight women and one in 700 men expected to be diagnosed in their lifetime in Australia.

“The McGrath Foundation is a breast cancer support and education charity in Australia, which raises money to place McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities across Australia and increase breast health awareness.

“Come along and lend your support to raise money and awareness for the McGrath Foundation and encourage your family to get active and have some family fun.”

All participants are encouraged to dress up in pink, whether it be a small splash or an all-out over the top ensemble, the more pink the better.

are still invited to take part, with no registration required.

All dogs must be on a leash and must get along with other dogs.

Participants can choose from the three kilometre walk, or a shorter walk, followed by a sausage sizzle breakfast.

The walk will kick start at 7am on October 28 from the Biloela Council building, 62 Valentine Plains Rd, with a cost of $10 per dog and all proceeds going directly to the McGrath Foundation.

A council spokesman said the council would also offer free microchipping for all dogs throughout the morning, allowing Council to reunite residents with their lost pets as soon as possible.

“Pets often lose their collar and or tag, so it is important to have your pet microchipped,” he said.
