CELEBRATE the start of the Christmas season tonight with Biloela’s annual Christmas Festival and a visit from Santa.

President of Biloela Enterprise Di Morris said this year would feature a “massive” entertainment line up, including many of the local schools.

“We are pretty excited about incorporating a lot of the schools this year – it was a bit of a challenge last time,” she said.

“We also have a mixed bag of adult’s entertainment, rides and of course on the ground entertainment, including our stilt man.

“Santa will be rolling in at 5.30pm and he is coming in on one of those new trikes,” Ms Morris said.

“We have also got a $1,000 cash prize raffle which will be drawn at 8pm, a ham wheel, as well as lots of food and market stalls.

“There’s a little bit of something for everyone,” she said.

In the past, the popular community event has seen up to 3,000 people in attendance.

“It’s an event I think people are recognising now as a significant event for Biloela,” Ms Morris said.

“It’s a free event and one the whole family can enjoy. It’s just a delight for young kids who want to see Santa.”

The event will also see the lighting of the traditional Christmas lights on the Christmas tree in front of Lions Park, which was established five years ago.

“We pick somebody of significance, or somebody who has made a difference in the community, to turn those lights on,” Ms Morris said.

“This year is young Caitlyn Donohoe, who just finished high school and was one of the school captains. She is an incredible young lady, she sat on the youth parliament for Queensland, so she has significant backing behind her to turn these Christmas lights on.”

Ms Morris would like to see the community come together tonight to celebrate the end of the year and all things Christmas.

“Come along and be thankful of what we have experienced during the year, whether it be not so good or things that have been really

good for the community,” she said.

“We look forward to seeing people come along and enjoy the event.”

The Biloela Christmas Festival will be held from 4.30pm this afternoon at Lions Park.

Entry to the event is free.
