FESTIVE spirits will be in full swing at the Nhulundu Health Service Christmas party this year, especially with the exciting guest appearance of Ninja Warrior Jack Wilson.

Mr Wilson — famous for his athletic performances on the popular television show and sports entertainment competition Australian Ninja Warrior — will be attending the event at the Biloela town pool on December 8 with around 100 locals.

Melena McKeown, who is co-ordinating the Christmas event with Nhulundu Health Service and who works with the Centre for Rural and Regional Indigenous Health as the program manager for health planning and access, said the party was a “way to give back to the community and back to our clients”.

Ms McKeown said Mr Wilson was an ideal role model as he promoted healthy living and a healthy lifestyle.

“Which fits in well with the health and well-being vision for the community. He’s a good role model for younger kids and he promotes healthy minds and healthy body.”

She said the day — the first Nhulundu Christmas party in Biloela — was still being planned, but would mostly likely involve an obstacle course as well as a talk and water activities.

“The kids are going to love it.”

She said it was important to highlight the work of Nhulundu Health Service as people didn’t always make health their priority.

“The clinic is a bulk-billing service which alleviates some of the stress of accessing medical service,” she said.

“We are reaching more people, but have had to build that community rapport.”

Currently the service operates out of its Callide St office one day a week, but Acting CEO of Nhulundu Health Services Melissa Cook said she hoped that could be increased to full-time hours.

A mobile medical van is located in the grounds of the Biloela State School where a team consisting of a doctor, nurse and health worker provide outreach medical services every Thursday.

The Christmas party private event, from 4.30pm-8pm, is for all clients of the Nhulundu Health Service (who have had a 715 Aboriginal health check), and people are invited to register for the party at the Biloela Office, 64 Callide St, or at the mobile medical van at the school. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
