Tradeswoman nominated for Qld award
FOURTH year heavy diesel technician apprentice Alanna Dennien wanted a trade that was both challenging and rewarding at the same time.
The hard-working apprentice at Komatsu in Gladstone has been nominated for Exceptional Trade/Technician/Operator in the 2019 Resources Awards for Women.
The awards are run by Queensland Resources Council, Women in Mining and Resources Queensland to recognise women and the work of men and women to promote gender diversity in the sector.
Alanna said it was an honour to be nominated for the award as it is a very large industry she’s employed in and had to work hard to be where she is today.
“The category was narrowed down to three finalists and the entrants had to answer in depth questions about their chosen professions,” Alanna said.
Alanna is originally from Biloela.
QRC chief executive Ian Macfarlane said the awards recognised the sector’s ability to bring gender balance in the workplaces.
The awards presentation will be in Brisbane on March 8.
