Road safety campaign

THE State Government has urged Banana Shire residents to be aware of the Queensland Police Service’s Christmas road safety campaign.

Minister for Police Mark Ryan said the summer holiday period was without doubt the busiest time on the roads as Queenslanders celebrated the festive season.

“The State Government is absolutely determined to reduce the devastation and trauma that is seen on our roads, particularly around this busy period,” Mr Ryan said.

“If we could have one Christmas wish, it would be for zero fatalities on Queensland roads during the holiday period.”

Running December 14 until February, this year’s Christmas campaign will have the police out in force with localised and statewide operations.

The police will target the Fatal Five of speeding, drink and drug driving, fatigue, distraction and seatbelts.

This year so far, 230 lives have been lost on Queensland roads.
