Great weather ahead for holidays

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Penny to bring possible showers

Central Telegraph - - NEWS THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY -

THE new year will bring with it some good clear and sunny weather with the possibility of showers and rainfall during the week.

It will be a great way to get outdoors and enjoy some fun and festivities.

However, Ex-Tropical Cyclone Penny’s movement over the coming week will have a strong influence of weather in the region.

The weather for today and tomorrow will be mostly sunny with a chance of a shower with a south-easterly wind.

The temperatures are expected to be overnight lows of 19C to daytime temperatures reaching a high of 35C.

Sunday is expected to be partly cloudy with a cooler change of temperatures of 19C to 32C.

Monday and Tuesday are expected to be partly cloudy with temperatures of 19C to 33C and a 30 per cent chance of rainfall.

Wednesday is expected to be cloudy with 10 per cent chance of rain and temperatures of 19C to 32C to bring a cool change to the region.

The Bureau of Meteorology said Ex-Tropical Cyclone Penny could re-form off Queensland but there is uncertainty about whether it will track back towards the coast.

BoM Meteorologist Jess Gardner said Ex-Tropical Cyclone Penny could influence rainfall on the Biloela region.

“Over the weekend there is the chance of isolated showers and on Sunday a chance it will contract to the coast,” Ms Gardner said.

“Monday there is a higher chance of receiving some rainfall from Ex-Tropical Cyclone Penny as there is a chance it will re-curve and track back to the Central Coast from the Coral Sea.

“There is a possibility Penny might cross the coast between Cairns and Mackay as a low pressure system early next week.”

PREDICTED COURSE: Ex-Tropical Cyclone Penny might swing towards the coast early next week.
