HORSE RAC­ING: Thangool Race Club will host a dou­ble header of fun and ex­cite­ment with some­thing for ev­ery­one on Aus­tralia Day long week­end.

The two fea­tures on Jan­uary 26 will be the Aus­tralia Day cel­e­bra­tions fol­lowed by a five-race meet af­ter­wards.

Thangool Race Club sec­re­tary Ed­wina Devine said the day would be a great one with heaps for the pub­lic to do.

“There will be a good field of horses for the rac­ing be­cause there is not much coun­try rac­ing on the day and ex­pect a good size crowd,” Devine said.

“Not only is the horse rac­ing on but there will be heaps of other ac­tiv­i­ties.”

The race meet is ex­pected to at­tract in­ter­est around Cen­tral Queens­land with Glad­stone, Rock­hamp­ton and Emer­ald pro­vid­ing a strong field with lo­cal rid­ers as well. The morn­ing pro­gram will fea­ture the Aus­tralia Day cel­e­bra­tions with awards.

The first race will be out of the gates around 12pm and the last one mid-af­ter­noon.

Race one is the Bench­mark 65 Hand­i­cap 1200M BM65, race two – Bench­mark 55 Hand­i­cap 1400M BM55, race three – Bench­mark 55 Hand­i­cap 800M BM55, race four – Class B Hand­i­cap 1075M CLB and race five – QTIS Maiden Plate (2YO & UP – Set Weights) 800M 2UP MDN-SW. The course will stay open un­til 6pm.

“It will be a great way for friends and fam­ily to spend the Aus­tralia Day long week­end,” Devine said.

“There will be jump­ing cas­tles for the kids to help keep them en­ter­tained and nov­elty rac­ing for the spec­ta­tors to join in the fun.”
