The Jiang Family Manor – Located in Liujiamao Village of Mizhi City, Shaanxi Province, the Jiangs’ Manor was once the private residence of a wealthy landlord with the family name of Jiang. The manor covers an area of 40 mu (2.7 hectares), has three courtyards that are connected by a secret passage, and is enclosed with a high wall on four sides. The whole design exhibits exquisite workmanship and an orderly layout. This is the largest castlelike cave manor in all of China, and is a treasure of the architecture of the Han people.

The Ma Family Manor – Located in Yangjiagou Fufeng Village, Mizhi County is a cave-like dwelling quadrangle courtyard that was built during the reign of Emperor Tongzhi (1856-1875) in the Qing Dynasty. This manor is enclosed on four sides with a high wall, and following the topography of the mountain, it has several layers. The best part of the compound was the “new courtyard” designed by Ma Xingmin (1890-1961). Ma Xingmin once studied in Japan, specializing in civil construction. The “new courtyard” that he completed was a magnificent architecture that combined elements of Chinese and Western cultures, and cleverly integrated the culture of northern Shaanxi cave dwellings with Western architecture. It contains great historic, artistic and academic research value.
