Beautiful Countryside, Better Life

The 2018 Document No. 1 of the central authorities, the first policy statement released by the central authorities each year, was about on the revitalization of the countryside, and ushered in unprecedented opportunities for rural development. In February of the same year, the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the General Office of the State Council issued the “Three-year Action Plan for Rural Human Settlement Environment Renovation,” which set goals for the improvement of rural environment.

A beautiful environment is the necessity of a good life. Basic living facilities will be improved in the countryside in the fields of water and electricity supply, greener environment, housing safety, and sewage treatment. Good living habits such as garbage classification will be promoted, and services such as cultural education, childcare, old-age care, medical and health care will be provided. Renovation of the rural environment will provide basic conditions for a happy life in the countryside.

Zhejiang Province rolled out the “Thousand Villages’ Demonstration and Renovation” project, which has set a benchmark for carrying out the renovation of rural human settlements throughout the country. Rural communities will be reworked to allow a dignified modern life without losing traditions and local cultures. The charm of the countryside will be stronger, and life in the countryside in the future will be better.
